FnBiometrics, a division of CHX Industries Inc., is developing their fingernail-based-biometric RFID chip Human-Machine Interface to address the following security issues:

Continuous Security
- Non-interfering, continuous realtime authorization of the individual operating a vehicle (ex. airplane, subway car, train, hazardous materials transport, etc.). This includes verifying that an authorized person’s hands are on the steering wheel or optionally that the feet controlling rudder movement or accelerator/brake pedal also belong to an authorized operator.
- Continuous authorization of a person operating a computer or a specific software application, preventing unauthorized use, or authorization of specific operations such as copying data, logging on to a higher security level, etc.

Environment Issues
- The only biometric device that can be used while completely covered with dust, dirt or protective clothing. Fingerprints get dirty, glasses or goggles get fogged or covered with water droplets, inhibiting other devices. RFID technology typically works buried inside all non-metallic materials.
- Extremely fast read time, works in cold, sandy, hot, dirty outdoor environments
- Non-contact, unlike most fingerprint/handprint readers
- Combines easily with other biometric devices, especially fingerprint readers, to yield greater security without any additional user time or effort required.

ID Security
- Inherently minimizes the chance of its Biometrics being clandestinely stolen unlike observable data such as physical features, prints, voice characteristics, etc.
- Can securely contain its own databases, unique ID#, classification codes, or other biometric data. (Ex. Owner is an FBI agent with x,y,z authorizations, etc.)
- Can act Intelligently, encrypting its signal, limiting access to its data/databases based on reader id or changing its status based on previous or external events.
- Tamper-resistant logging of ‘external data sent to it’ such as (but not limited to) GPS data, compass data, lock access times, reader-id#, purchase info, etc.)

User Issues
- Impossible to unknowingly or temporarily loose, unlike a separate smartcard
- Can disable itself if tampering is detected, or can pre-adjust security sensitivity
- Can securely and unobservably generate tactile signals or feedback for user
- The user can quickly communicate with it via contacts or capacitance sensors on top the device. (Ex. To verify user consciousness, temporarily disable it, etc.)
